Nautilus
Conference Room
Installment 2

By Dave LaBonte

The worst part about building this room is that it's very distracting. I find myself wanting to work on the room and not my actual work. I keep drifting off to "hmm, how can I do this or that."

About the materials - We've had to make almost everything from scratch. We molded the rivets and cut out the window bracing and "metal" stips from hardboard. We've turned our little warehouse into a Nautilus production facility. Kind of a mini Vulcania. Other materials resulted from creative application of things meant for other usages. For example, we've used floor drains for wall vents and wall lights for ceiling lights. Also, I scoured EBay looking for antique brass guages. The only thing we've had to have custom made is the Grand Salon Window. We went to a skylight company and had it made to our specs. We'll show pictures of that in future photos.
